Getting your player ready...

Washington – Jason Jennings has plenty of bad memories of RFK Stadium. He grew up a Dallas Cowboys fan, often seeing his favorite team fall on these grounds. And last July 20, his season ended here when he suffered a broken right middle finger on an awkward slid at second base.

Those will slowly dissipate, if not be replaced by what unfolded Thursday afternoon. Jennings delivered a dominating performance, stifling the Washington Nationals in the Rockies’ 8-1 victory that punctuated only the third four-game road sweep in franchise history.

The previous two came in 1993 against the Los Angeles Dodgers and 2000 against the Montreal Expos. Neither was as impressive, lopsided or as significant as this mauling. The Rockies outscored the Nationals 35-14 and produced 46 hits in four games.

Jennings left little doubt about Thursday’s outcome. He worked eight innings, surrendering just six hits. The only run he allowed was unearned, pushed across because of an error by third baseman Garrett Atkins.

All the support Jennings needed came in the second inning when Brad Hawpe unloaded on a Livan Hernandez fastball. The two-run homer, his 12th of the season, shoved Colorado (34-32) ahead for good.
