Developer Buzz Geller is resurrecting a 20-year-old vision to build a hotel tower on Glenarm Place across from the Denver Athletic Club.
He wants to collaborate with the owners of the buildings that house the Denver Press Club and Colorado Press Association, and he plans to meet with the boards of both organizations to gain their approval.
If a deal happens, the project could include hotel rooms, condominiums and a grocery store.
Geller is talking to the Denver Press Club board July 20. Any deal with Geller also would need the blessing of the membership, Press Club president Bruce Goldberg said.
“It’s preliminary. It’s way too early to do a story. He’s just going to come talk to us,” he said.
Geller also is talking to Steve Oxman, whose family controls the parking lot adjacent to the Colorado Press Association at 14th Street and Glenarm Place.
Geller has not scheduled a meeting with the Colorado Press Association, which renovated its building about seven years ago.
“We own the building, so there really isn’t an incentive to change, but we’d certainly want to listen to his proposal,” said Ed Otte, executive director of the association.
Even without the neighbors’ OK, Geller can build a tower on the property he already controls. He owns the parking lot adjacent to the Denver Press Club building fronting Glenarm and the one behind it that fronts 13th Street and Tremont Place.
Without the cooperation of the other property owners, Geller’s project would front 13th from Glenarm to Tremont.
“It would go straight up and pretty high,” he said.
