Two University of Wyoming students, including a freshman from Denver, and a former student were found dead of possible gunshot wounds near the Laramie campus early Sunday, police said.

Laramie police are treating the deaths as a triple homicide, but it could be a homicide-suicide, Cmdr. Dale Stalder said.

“We believe we have identified all who were involved, and there’s no threat to the community,” he said.

Police have made no arrests.

Stalder identified the victims as Amber N. Carlson, 19, of Denver; Justin R. Geiger, 20, of Illinois; and Adam Towler, 20, of Laramie.

A fourth person who lived in the house, Anthony Klochak, 19, summoned police Sunday just after 2 a.m., police said.

Klochak, of Chardon, Ohio, was injured in the incident but released from the hospital later Sunday, Stalder said.

Three of the house’s four residents were freshmen at the University of Wyoming. Towler was a former student but not currently enrolled.

“It’s a terrible, terrible tragedy,” said University of Wyoming president Tom Buchanan, who was told about the incident Sunday afternoon. “It’s a terrible reminder that no place is immune from this kind of violence. Our hearts go out to the families.”

The incident occurred in the 1900 block of East Custer Street, two blocks from campus, in a neighborhood of mostly single- family homes filled with families. There are two rental houses that cater to students.

Neighbor Ralph Holen said everyone in the area was saying the students were killed by gunshots.

“Police woke me up at 3:30 (a.m.),” Holen said. “I live just two houses down.”

Harold Vigil, who lives across the street from the students’ house, said the students had lived there awhile but there hadn’t been any major problems.

“The neighbors said (police) disrupted a party there before,” he said.

Police would not disclose the cause of death, but they did say it was “violent.”

The incident is under investigation, police said.
