“HGTV Design Star” premieres at 7 p.m. Sunday on Comcast Channel 39
In a concept that sounds like the home-decorating version of “Project Runway” or “Top Chef,” 10 aspiring designers will try to wow television land and a panel of expert judges made up of InStyle editor Martha McCully, author and TV personality Vern Yip, and Swell founder Cynthia Rowley. This new eight-week reality competition – for which HGTV received more than 1,500 entries – will be hosted by Clive Pearse. Each week, participants will be challenged with a different decorating quandary as they vie for their own HGTV show.|lana Ashanti Jefferson
