Airport authorities in Clark County, Nev., shut down part of the airport and scrambled hazardous material teams Saturday after 11 people became ill on a United Airlines flight from Denver to Las Vegas, including four of the plane’s flight attendants.

Authorities quarantined United Flight 1491 for several hours late Saturday night, as hazmat teams scoured the plane, its 137 passengers and luggage, but found nothing of concern, according to Bob Leinbach, a spokesman for the Clark County Fire Department.

The plane started the day flying out of the Washington, D.C., area, heading to Cancun, Mexico, and then to Denver. The flight was going from Denver to Las Vegas with a final destination of San Francisco.

Leinbach said that eight passengers had become sick in flight, and that the captain had alerted authorities on the ground. Another three passengers were ill by the time police, medical and hazmat teams met the plane at its gate.

Leinbach said the cause of the illness was still unknown, but that no more passengers became sick once the flight arrived in Las Vegas at 6:47 p.m. MST.
