Selling wealth: By catering to the rich and famous, Aspen real estate agent Josh Saslove could become so himself.
He recently sold a 900-acre ranch near Aspen to music-industry veteran Tommy Mottola, former chairman and chief executive of Sony Music Entertainment. It was a $47 million, all-cash deal.
Saslove also is listing the $135 million Aspen-area mansion of Prince Bandar bin Sultan, former Saudi Arabian ambassador to the U.S. At just a 3 percent commission, that sale alone could earn him $4 million – enough to buy his own little Aspen bungalow.
The green state: A California building designed and built by Colorado companies is the first state-owned building in the country to receive the LEED EB Platinum certification from the Green Building Council.
The design-build team of Fentress Bradburn Architects and Hensel Phelps Construction Co. shaved 10 months off the original timeline to build the California Department of Education headquarters, translating into significant savings for the state.
Sustainable-design solutions and energy-efficiency strategies are expected to save the state thousands in operating costs annually. The building outperforms California Title 24 Energy Standards by 43 percent, and 99.6 percent of its construction waste was diverted from landfills.
Patriotic pitch: Prices on new homes in a Cañon City community are being reduced by 2 percent for active and inactive military personnel.
The developer of Four Mile Ranch, a 1,640-acre planned community, is offering the discount as a way to support the local military community.
Four Mile Ranch includes more than 750 acres of open and recreational space, including 5 miles of walking trails. It has been approved for 2,500 homes and will have a public golf course.
Niche marketing: The developer of Wind Crest in Highlands Ranch is launching “Retirement Living,” a television network aimed at people 62 and older.
John Erickson, founder and CEO of Erickson Retirement Communities, plans to be on the air in September in the New England and Mid-Atlantic markets, with a nationwide rollout to follow.
