For more than a week, an armed robber has targeted adult businesses across the metro area. On Sunday, he escalated the violence by firing a single gunshot during robberies in Denver and Commerce City, police said, but there were no injuries.

The robberies have occurred mostly in Denver.

The robber hit Pleasures Entertainment Center, 127 S. Broadway, at 1:05 a.m. Sunday, then robbed the Romantix bookstore, 633 E. Colfax Ave., about 10 minutes later.

Detectives are concerned that as the robber gains confidence, he may become more violent, Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson said.

About an hour after the Denver cases, the Romantix bookstore, 4810 Pontiac St. in Commerce City, was robbed. Customers were in the store at the time, police Sgt. Joe Sandoval said.

Commerce City police say it is too early to say definitively if it’s the same man.

Other robberies occurred at adult book and video stores at 119 S. Broadway, 8216 E. Colfax Ave., 3490 W. Colfax Ave. and 5580 N. Federal Blvd. The corporate offices of the stores did not return calls.
