Sergio Garcia will tee it up at International
Sergio Garcia was added to the golfers who will compete in The International, which begins next Monday at Castle Pines. The six-time PGA tour player has played the tournament seven times, with his best finish in 1999, when he tied for 13th place.
Also added to the field were Colorado Open winner Dustin White and PGA tour golfers Jonathan Byrd, Stewart Cink, Jason Gore, John Huston, Thomas Levet, Steve Lowery, Rocco Mediate, Shaun Micheel and Kirk Triplett.
In addition to the main tournament, 15 local junior golfers will participate in the Pro-Junior Challenge, played in teams with one PGA tour professional and three juniors over five holes at Castle Pines.
Jamison Blair and Bryan Brennan from Eagle, Molly Dorans of Erie, Drew Gagliardi from Trinidad, Tucker Legerski and Mark Roush from Pueblo, Bobby Moyer of Aspen, Tyler Muhs from Aurora, Jasmine Schutt-VanMeveren from Fort Collins and Denver residents CJ Dorsey, Jesse Gaass, Aaron Guereca, Ned Imhoff, Clay LaBrec and Jasmin Rios were chosen based on school performance, sportsmanship, citizenship and golfing ability.
Metro State hires baseball coach
Bobby Pierce has been named the new baseball coach at Metro State. Pierce previously worked at Arkansas-Little Rock for three years, where he served as the hitting coach.
Colorado Academy golfer wins Fla. tourney
Mark Hubbard, a senior at Colorado Academy, won the Optimist International Junior Gold Championships in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Harden entered the final round in fourth place but shot a 1-under par 72 to finish with a tournament score of 289, three strokes ahead of second-place finishers Jose Ignacio Guzman Arias of Tucuman, Argentina; Johnny Widmer of Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands; and Pavit Tangkamolprasert of Bangkok, Thailand.
