
Golden – A flash flood warning was issued for several hours this afternoon for north-central Jefferson County where more than two inches of rain fell in about 40 minutes.
At Heritage Square on U.S. 40 south of Golden, a half-inch of rain was recorded in 10 minutes.
Pea-sized hail accompanied sheets of rain in some areas of Arvada, Golden, Westminster, Wheat Ridge and Lakewood.
Some of the heaviest rain struck northeast of White Ranch Park or about 16 miles northwest of Denver. The National Weather Service reported at 3 p.m. that the storm was moving east at 5 mph.
Automated rain gauges recorded almost three inches of rain fell along Colorado 93 at Upper Leyden Creek between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Radar also indicated that there was heavier rain east of Golden Gate Canyon State Park.
The weather service cautioned northern Jefferson County residents near Leyden Creek and Ralston Reservoir to be aware of flooding potential and to be prepared to move to high ground.
