Vandals smashed windows and sprayed fire extinguishers on 38 Cherry Creek School District buses early this morning, officials say.

Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Department investigators interviewed three juveniles about the vandalism that happened at about 1 a.m. at the district’s bus barn behind Smoky Hill High School, said Lt. Bruce Williamson, sheriff’s office spokesman.

The three juveniles were later released and have not been charged, Williamson said.

A district security guard heard an alarm at 1:20 a.m. when he was at the high school, he said.

As he arrived next door, he saw three juveniles jumping a fence and called 911. There was about $10,000 worth of damage to the buses, Williamson said.
