A 16-year-old student was stabbed on the Horizon High School campus about 2 p.m. Thursday, said Janelle Albertson, spokeswoman for Adams 12 Five-Star Schools.

School authorities were told there was an altercation in the courtyard area of the school, but they found no evidence of a fight, Albertson said.

Thornton police searched the perimeter of the school and then received a call from a student suspected in the stabbing, Albertson said.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested off campus on suspicion of second-degree assault, Thornton police officer Matt Barnes said.

The victim was found at East 136th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard. The victim suffered a wound to the abdomen, but it was not life-threatening.

The school plans to send parents a letter about the incident today. Albertson said the fight is considered an isolated incident.

“It literally unfolded in a matter of minutes, and there was a swift response from law enforcement and authorities,” she said.
