The new Broomfield Event Center is taking on major league sports as it launches the first advertising campaign for its two minor league sports teams. When the $45 million center opens in November, it will be home to the Colorado 14ers, an NBA development league team, and the Rocky Mountain Rage, a Central Hockey League team.

The campaign, designed by Golden ad agency Commotion, focuses on the difference in league paychecks. The first ads feature a crying baby sitting atop a pile of money with the tagline, “Don’t support million dollar cry babies.”

“The campaign was designed to highlight our family-friendly pricing in a humorous way,” said Trey Medlock, the center’s general manager. “Our players are in it for the love of the game, not the paycheck.”

During the season, they are paid between $300 and $1,000 a week.Fans can buy partial season ticket packages starting at $55 for the Rage and $85 for the 14ers.

The 6,000-seat center, located along U.S. 36 between West 108th and 120th avenues, is owned by the City & County of Broomfield and will be managed by Wiens Frew Management Group.
