Elton Brown, a 6-foot-9, 255-pound power forward, became the first draft pick of the Colorado 14ers NBA Development League team Tuesday and was the first selection overall in the expansion draft.
The 14ers, Bakersfield Jam, Anaheim Arsenal and Los Angeles D-Fenders each selected 10 players.
Colorado coach Joe Wolf also selected Kaniel Dickens, who attended Denver’s East High School, and Rick Rickert, a former McDonald’s High School All-American. Others picked were Lenny Stokes, Austin Nichols, D’or Fischer, Tyrone Sally, Kevin Lyde, E.J. Roland and Jonathan Moore.
“I’m excited about this draft, particularly the first pick,” Wolf said. “Elton Brown is a quality person and a quality player, and is aimed at a professional career in the NBA.”
The four teams will submit a preference order list of its selected players. Each team can sign up to four players.
Littleton’s Kidney beaten at Senior Amateur
Jerry Kidney of Littleton was knocked out of the USGA Senior Amateur in the first round of match play Tuesday at Victoria National Golf Club in Newburgh, Ind., losing 7 and 6 to Randy Reifers of Columbus, Ohio.
DU rallies to beat Wyoming in volleyball
The University of Denver volleyball team came back to win the last three games, defeating Wyoming 3-2 (24-30, 29-31, 30-26, 30-21, 15-4) at Hamilton Gym.
Sophomore Holly Benson led the Pioneers (7-4) in kills, recording 22 and hitting .312. DU also defended the net well, recording 21 blocks. Rachel Smith was the Cowgirls’ (7-5) top attacker, recording 18 kills.
