Colfax has no shortage of dive bars, but the latest and greatest of the
hipster hangouts is Rockbar, the new lounge inside the All Inn Motel at 3015 E. Colfax Ave. Decked in
its orginal ’70s décor – the place closed in 1979 and was
reopened only a few weeks ago – the dim interior sports dark wood
furniture and pintucked booths,
silver-and-orange foil wallpaper, mirrored walls, and a wood parquet dance floor. Order up a gourmet version of low-brow fare (fried
bologna sandwiches, corn dogs), wash it down with a PBR or Schlitz beer, and chill to the sounds of classic rock and
heavy metal blasting through the many massive speakers. Neon wall plaques
commemorate iconic rockers such as AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Motley Crue, Van Halen and Jimi Hendrix; weekend DJs keep the rock-till-you-drop tradition alive
with the best tracks from legendary albums and local up-and-comers. |Kat Valentine
