WALDRON, Ark.-

The 72-year-old mayor who was accused providing city water service in exchange for sex has agreed to resign.

Troy Anderson’s resignation will be effective Sunday and the City Council has called a special meeting Monday night to consider appointing someone to serve the three months left in his term.

Also on Monday, a plea agreement in the case is expected to be finalized, said prosecutor Tom Tatum said. Tatum would not reveal details of the plea.

Arkansas State Police investigated complaints against Anderson, who was charged with two counts of abuse of public trust and four counts of patronizing a prostitute.

According to court documents, two women told investigators that Anderson had solicited and paid them for sex. Documents filed in the case also allege he provided city water service to a woman in exchange for sex.
