Just the good stuff:

Saturday night’s big ($2,500 per ticket) gala at the Denver Art Museum’s dramatic new Frederic C. Hamilton Building? Staffers made the very smart move of having the biggest, and most respected, names in Denver fundraising circles at the fore. Arlene Hirschfeld (Junior League, Women’s Foundation of Colorado), Scott Reiman (The Children’s Hospital) and Dick Robinson (National Jewish Medical & Research Center) are the co-chairs. The committee for A Night to Remember is equally impressive: Jana Bartlit, Nancy Benson, Sharon Magness Blake, Melinda Douglas, Heidi Hamilton, Nancy Leprino Henry, Sarah Hunt, Joy Johnson, Wendy Lee, Kalleen Malone, Jan Mayer, Vicki Myhren, Susan Noble, Kristin Richardson and Beth Wood. The sponsors are Anna and John Sie and Carol and Joel Farkas.

The Hirschfelds – Arlene and her husband, Barry – kick off the weekend by serving as hosts for tonight’s Celebrity Waiters Dinner at Elway’s steakhouse. It’s put on by Concerts for Kids, with proceeds going to the Children’s Hospital Foundation and National Jewish. Bold-name servers include CBS 4 anchors Molly Hughes and Jim Benemann, Josh Hanfling and Walter Isenberg.

Also tonight, Colorado UpLIFT is having its 24th annual fundraising gala at the Adam’s Mark Hotel. The theme is “Meet the Heroes of Colorado UpLIFT” and instead of the customary pre-dinner silent auction, there will be a wine tasting hosted by Colcannon Wines, Southern Wine and Spirits, National Distributing Co. and Beverage Distributors. Mark and Melissa Grosvenor are the presenting sponsors, and a raffle drawing will give the winner a choice of three prizes: $25,000 in cash, a Ford F-150 or a Mustang convertible, all courtesy of Freeway Ford.

Denver Zoo’s ninth annual Brew at the Zoo … and Wine, Too! was a great success, thanks to a planning committee made up of Grant Bennett, Dana Berry, Bradley Joseph, Leila Mills, Andi Schultz, John Segelke, Christopher Towt, Keith Trammell and Cate Wisneski. They’re members of Wild Things, a group of young professionals who raise money for the zoo’s scholarship/outreach initiative, the Red Apple Fund.

Wine and appetizers at the Great Northern Tavern at 5:15 p.m. launch the Oct. 1 Culinary Crawl put on by Families First. Afterward, it’s on to Cool River for salad and entrées, followed by dessert and specialty coffees at Il Fornaio. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased by calling 303-745-0327.
