Alamosa – Fort Lewis held Adams State scoreless after the first quarter Saturday and got a 34-yard field goal from Ryan Ames midway through the fourth quarter for a come-from-behind 17-14 victory at Rex Stadium.

Fort Lewis (5-2, 5-0) remained atop the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, with Chadron State (6-0, 3-0) – a 35-7 winner Saturday over Western New Mexico – right behind.

Adams State fell to 3-3 and 2-2.

Ames’ 25-yard touchdown reception from Matt Gutierrez with eight seconds remaining in the first half erased an early two-touchdown deficit and tied the game at 14-14.

Gutierrez went 15-of-23 for a game-high 147 passing yards.

Fort Lewis’ Justin Matherson began a string of two consecutive scores for the Skyhawks with a 7-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter.

NEBRASKA-KEARNEY 23, WESTERN STATE 3

at Gunnison – The teams combined for four field goals going into the third quarter, but Nebraska-Kearney used two trick plays for touchdowns to pull away from Western State at the Mountaineer Bowl.

Nebraska-Kearney (3-2, 2-1 RMAC) used a flea-flicker to set up Cory Sleeth for a 63-yard TD catch from Kevin Arbuckle with 8:30 remaining in the third quarter to give the Lopers a 16-3 lead.

Sleeth has scored a touchdown in five consecutive games. Eric Myrick’s 32-yard touchdown run from a reverse with 5:09 remaining capped the scoring. Dan Brethauer led Western State (1-5, 1-3) with 13-of-33 passing for 186 yards passing.

N.M. HIGHLANDS 19, COLORADO MINES 16

at Golden – Joseph Kensey’s 2-yard touchdown catch from Alex Aispruo with 39 seconds to play gave New Mexico Highlands the victory at Brooks Field.

Highlands (3-3, 1-3 RMAC) was led by Aispuro’s 232 yards passing on 16-of-27 completions.

Trailing 13-3, Mines (2-4, 0-3) rattled off three consecutive scores, including Michael Curl’s 71-yard catch from Keenan Bruchez. After Aaron Abel’s 42-yard field goal with 6:50 remaining, the Orediggers had a 16-13 advantage.

Bruchez threw for 302 yards on 24-of-35 passing. Bryan Florendo rushed for 163 yards on 27 carries for Mines.

COLORADO COLLEGE 56, MACALESTER COLLEGE 28

at Colorado Springs – The Tigers erased a 14-0 deficit behind quarterback Chris Neal’s banner day for a homecoming victory at Washburn Field. Neal threw for 194 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 184 yards and three scores to lead CC (3-2).
