Aspen – A boom of bouncing baby boys has hospital officials here scratching their heads and calculating odds.
Over the past two weeks, 14 boys – but no girls – have been born at the Aspen Valley Hospital, which, coincidentally, just won approval to expand its maternity ward, said spokeswoman Ginny Dyche.
While the probability of flipping a coin and getting the same result 14 times in a row is 1 in 16,384, for some reason in humans there are actually 106 boys born for every 100 girls.
“That could be a good research project for somebody: What was going on here nine months ago?” Dyche said.
As of Wednesday, there were no other expectant mothers at the hospital.
“It’ll be interesting to see if we have a bunch more boys,” Dyche said.
