A Denver firefighter is in fair condition today, after suffering from smoke inhalation on Sunday evening.
Sean Wendt, 39, was overcome by smoke fighting a basement fire at 23rd and Poplar.
Wendt is an eight-year veteran of the Denver Fire Department.
Wendt was in the basement of the single-family home in heavy fire and smoke conditions.
Firefighters were making search and rescue efforts, as well as fighting the fire.
Shortly after entering the basement, Wendt experienced trouble breathing and tried to get out, with the help of a second firefighte, John Gonzales, a three-year veteran.
Wendt began to lose consciousness as he was helped out of the house.
He collapsed ouside and was taken to the hospital.
Gonzales suffered a sprained right ankle, in trying to help Wendt. He was treated and released.
