The fraternity house where a Colorado State University freshman drank so much she had to be hospitalized was boarded up over the weekend after its operations were suspended.
The Sigma Alpha Epsilon house will be closed and all 16 of its live-in members will be relocated, Brandon Weghorst, spokesman for the national chapter, said today.
The suspension means the CSU chapter will be closed for at least two years while the fraternity decides whether to reapply to the university for recognition. An investigation of the drinking incident at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon house by fraternity officials revealed several violations of chapter operations, Weghorst said.
“We felt this was the best way to move forward and restore the reputation of the chapter at CSU,” Weghorst said.
The 17-year-old freshman reportedly drank 12 shots of hard liquor in about a half hour at the house in mid-September. She was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and officials said she probably would have died without medical intervention.
