A Colorado Department of Corrections worker was arrested this week on suspicion of sexual conduct, Denver police said Thursday.

The suspect was identified as Leshawn Terrell, 36, but police would not release his job title or photograph pending further investigation, Denver police Detective John White said.

Police confirmed that the alleged victim was a woman, and the investigation focused on the Denver Reception and Diagnostic Center, 10900 Smith Road.

“We’re not releasing any information until charges are filed,” said Brent Parker, a spokesman for the DOC.

The 400-bed maximum- security facility is the first stop for offenders to get processed, tested and classified before entering the prison system, according to the DOC.

On Wednesday, investigators with the Denver Police Department’s Sex Crimes Unit in cooperation with the DOC began investigating the allegations.

As a result, Terrell was jailed recently on investigation of the charge of sexual conduct in a penal institution, police said.
