Denver’s going to have “Happy Feet.”
The animated movie opens wide on Nov. 17 – and it’s bound to be a hit from director George Miller, who gave us “Babe.” Voices courtesy Robin Williams, Hugh Jackman, Elijah Wood, Nicole Kidman. The Cherry Creek Shopping Center has joined the march; its elaborate snow globes and holiday decorations are themed with the film.
To kick it off on Nov. 2, 100 kids in “Happy Feet” T’s and black penguin pants will tap-dance their way from each end of the mall into the grand court. That’s 1,000 tapping toes that’ll be joined by tap-dancing Cleo Parker Robinson, Colorado first lady Frances Owens, Post Editor Greg Moore, mall brass Nick LeMasters and Lisa Herzlich, Mumble (the central penguin character) and maybe even Husted, if my feet get happy.
Skiers meet Sleeper
On Thursday night, VIPs, media types and contest winners will go to the Sleeper House for a preview of Warren Miller’s new movie, “Off the Grid.” The skiing stars will be there, including Kevin Quinn, freestyle “it” girl Lynsey Dyer and Chris Anthony.
You wanna go too? Sixty-four tix will be handed out starting Monday at myfox colorado.com and on Bret Saunders’ KBCO radio show Wednesday morning.
Haven’t we met?
I noticed the ad for “Amy” in the Adult Services classifieds in Westword.
“My photo,” she notes under a smiling blond snapshot.
She goes on to to say: “Independent, $200, Slender, Busty, Friendly & Fun! UPSCALE! DTC! 100% Guaranteed. More Del Frisco’s than Del Taco.”
Somethin’ else entirely
I went by Somethin’ Else restaurant to see owner/chef Sean Kelly Wednesday. He was about to change the voice message on the phone – telling people the joint was shut down. He told me it felt really good to have sold the place. “Like losing a ball and chain.”
The space is set to become Fruition in December, run by two Mizuna vets, chef Alex Seidel and front-of-the-house-man Paul Attardi. It’s all good. And, as the voice message tells you, they will honor any and all valid gift certificates from Somethin’ Else. That’s a nice thing – and an unusual thing.
