Joseph Jackson scored 18 points and DaShawn Walker added 15 points and 12 rebounds Sunday, lifting the University of Denver to a 74-68 victory over Northern Colorado for the Pioneers’ first win of the season.

Steve Wetrich contributed 16 points and seven assists for Denver (1-3), which avoided its first 0-4 start since 1962.

Kirk Archibeque led the visiting Bears (0-4) with 17 points. UNC’s Sean Taibi scored 13 points and Will Figures added 12.

DU led by 18 points in the second half, but the Bears chipped away at their deficit. Archibeque made a layup with 1:22 remaining to get the Bears within 68-63, but the Pioneers pulled away again on free throws.

The Pioneers outshot the Bears 54 percent to 36 percent.

Women

COLORADO 80, CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE 64 at Boulder – Jackie McFarland notched her third consecutive double-double, leading Colorado to a victory over Cal State Northridge at the Coors Events Center.

McFarland, the reigning Big 12 player of the week, finished with 21 points and 14 rebounds. She became the only player in CU history to start two seasons with three consecutive double-doubles. She also did it last season.

The Buffaloes (2-1) shot 56.3 percent from the floor in the first half and led by 20 points before taking a 48-30 lead into the second half.

CU’s Bianca Smith scored all of her career-high 14 points in the first half and teammate Jasmina Ilic scored 12 of her 18 points in the first half.

Ofa Tulikihihifo led Cal State Northridge (2-2) with 20 points.

PACIFIC 71, COLORADO STATE 59 at Stockton, Calif. – Freshman Jo Mullaney and senior Molly Nohr combined for 40 points for Colorado State, but Pacific rolled to a victory over the visiting Rams.

Three Pacific players scored in double figures. Karen Dawkins, a graduate of Coronado High School in Colorado Springs, led Pacific with a game- high 24 points.

Mullaney scored 21 points to lead Colorado State (1-2) and Nohr added 19 points.

Justine France, a senior, started for the Rams in place of freshman Juanise Cornell, who didn’t play because of migraines suffered before the game.

Jake Kelly added 17 points for Pacific (1-1) and Tyler Moran scored 10.
