A minor earthquake shook homes near Telluride just after noon today, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The 3.3 magnitude quake hit at 12:38 p.m. Its epicenter was about 14 miles west of Ridgway, according to geophysicist John Bellini, of the National Earthquake Information Center in Golden.
“It’s large enough for people to feel 10-20 miles away from the epicenter…It’s not something for people to be concerned about,” Bellini said.
Residents of Montrose, Placerville, Ridgway and Telluride notified the USGS they had felt the motion.
Sheriff’s offices in San Miguel and Ouray counties had no reports from residents.
Bellini said the USGS considers quakes of this magnitude too small to cause damage.
