Holiday travelers flying out of Denver International Airport this Thanksgiving weekend have filled parking lots, but as of late today, space was still available.
As of 4:30 p.m. today, both the east and west economy lots are full, as is the Pikes Peak shuttle lot.
Parking is still available in both the east and west garages, as well as the east and west valet stops.
Parking is also available in the Mt. Elbert shuttle lot, which costs $5 a day. But allow plenty of extra time for using that lot because of its distance from the terminal.
Economy lots are $9 per 24 hours, garages are $18 per 24 hours, and valet parking is $27 per 24 hours. Short-term parking, which does not include overnight parking, is available for $3 per hour.
An updated recording on parking availability at DIA can be heard by dialing (303) DIA-PARK. Traveling tips for going through DIA can be heard by dialing (303) DIA-TIPS.
TSA security screeners have developed the 3-1-1 rule for passengers. Travelers are allowed to carry on 3 oz. bottles of cosmetics and lotions provided they are placed inside a 1-quart plastic bag. Only 1 bag per passenger is allowed. All other liquids and cosmetics must be packed in checked baggage.
Weather is not expected to be a factor for travelers in the central part of the country, including Colorado and other mountain states. However, the southeastern coast is experiencing a terrific storm and the northwestern coast, including northern California, is bracing for substantial rainfall.
According to AAA, nearly 80 percent of travelers this holiday weekend will be traveling by automobile, with most people traveling longer distances than normal.
Gasoline averages $2.23 a gallon across the country, which is down from this summer’s prices but still higher than it was a year ago.
