Fremont County investigators said today they have searched the home of a former Nuclear Regulatory Commission worker who disappeared more than two years ago, but they declined to say what they found.
“There are some suspicious circumstances involved” in the disappearance of 54-year-old Gene Fish, Fremont County sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Robert Dodd said. He declined to elaborate, citing the ongoing investigation.
Fish was last seen in June 2004. His wife, Lynn Fish, has said he left their home in frustration over their house and his life since retiring from the NRC two years earlier. She had an unlisted phone number and could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
The search of the home was conducted in September, Dodd said. It was reported in today’s editions of The Gazette.
Dodd said the search warrant was obtained using information gathered by sheriff’s investigators and by private investigators hired by Fish’s family.
Gene Fish’s father, Bill, hired private investigators to look into his son’s disappearance. They have said the missing man has not used his bank accounts or passport or contacted his friends or parents since his disappearance.
Dodd declined to say whether investigators believe Gene Fish is alive, whether they have identified any suspects or whether he expects any arrests.
He acknowledged that some people have been critical of the pace of the investigation but said “there is a method to what we have been doing.”
