Aspen never lets you down.
Word comes that a new house on the top of Mill Street in Aspen is renting for $25,000 a NIGHT this holiday season. A condo atop the Paragon Building is asking $20,000 a night. And Tracy Sutton, president of Aspen Signature Properties, is offering a nice rental at $35,000 a night.
“That one is very hush-hush,” Sutton says. “We have to screen people before they can even look at it. And there’s a $250,000 security deposit. It’s a tough house to rent, it’s very fragile.”
Those three properties are still available, you’ll be relieved to discover. The highest price anyone is paying Sutton so far is $20,000 a night. I wonder if that includes breakfast?
She says the houses are taken by big biz names and celebs – usually for one to two weeks. No one is naming names, but Aspen Magazine says high-end renters include Robert De Niro, Jerry Seinfeld and Toby Maguire.
Datekeeper
Adman/beer drinker Lew Cady has again produced the City of Lone Tree calendar. This annual gift from the city to its residents is notable for its fine photographs and the eclectic birthdays that Cady celebrates on each date: Some locals, some celebs, some alive, a lot dead.
“I just do it to make it fun,” he says. “I like it that Voltaire is there, along with Britney Spears. And I like it that Vin Diesel and Rudolf Diesel are both there.”
Yeah, it’s a strange brew. Other birthdays for 2007 include Charles Addams, 95; Katie Couric, 50; Elvis Presley, 72; Jack London, 131; Orlando Bloom, 30; “Wrong Way” Corrigan, 100; Jay Cutler, 24; Fred Astaire, 108; Bono, 48; Trey Parker, 35; John Elway, 47; Donald Duck, 73; Jessica Simpson, 27; Clint Hurdle, 50; Todd Helton, 34; Patty Calhoun, 53; Bill Husted, 59; Dick Kreck, 66; Gary Hart, 69; Emily Dickinson, 177; Tatum Bell, 26; Daniel Libeskind, 61; Carmelo Anthony, 23; Ed Sardella, 67 and Kenyon Martin, 30.
