Colorado Clays available

An earlier discussion of public shooting opportunity failed to mention Colorado Clays, which features trap and sporting clays facilities at a location north of Denver International Airport. The range is at 13600 Lanewood St., Brighton, phone 303-659-7117.

Fly film festival

Denver Trout Unlimited will host its second fly-fishing film festival Jan. 4 as a prelude to The Fly Fishing Show, which begins a three-day run the following day. The films, a collection of short films originally viewed at the Fly Fishing Retailer World Trade Expo in August under the aegis of The Drake Magazine, will be shown at 7:15 p.m. at The Mile High Station, 2027 W. Colfax Ave. A social hour, including a silent auction, begins at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Proceeds benefit chapter conservation projects and youth instruction. Piccirilli’s photo pilgrimage north

Since 1992, Denver-area resident Tom Piccirilli has been making regular pilgrimages to the Bob Marshall Wilderness in northwest Montana, wading and floating for bull trout up to 15 pounds and West Slope cutthroat trout.

Traveling by horseback or on foot into the largest wilderness in the lower 48 states, Piccirilli often wades or floats the South Fork of the Flathead River, gateway to a land of solitude and grizzly bears.

He’ll give a photo presentation on how to replicate this adventure at 7 p.m. Thursday to the Cherry Creek Anglers Chapter of Trout Unlimited at Gander Mountain Sports, 14000 E. Jewell Ave. Phone 303-841-3612 for information.
