Who: Paul and Karin Dilcher of Aurora.
Where: Floating in the Dead Sea.
Best meal: The daily breakfasts and evening meals at our different Kibbutz Hotel Chain locations, which was part of our travel package. Each location offered the best in local fresh produce, cheeses, breads, soups, main entrees, desserts, beverages and selected kosher dishes. Every day was a new location, a new adventure, with new selections, but all shared the common theme of outstanding variety and quality. Knowing that breakfast and dinner were taken care of daily allowed us time and energy to do what we came to Israel for – to see and explore the country. Not only was the food excellent, but we were able to save time and avoid the hassle of restaurant hunting.
Best deal: Emmanuel Messianic Bookshop, Jerusalem, located in the Old City Jaffa Gate area, across the street from David’s Tower. Good selection of Christian and Messianic Jewish artifacts, jewelry, and music.
Best time to go: We found that early November worked well for fewer crowds and pleasant weather countrywide.
Best travel tip: We rented a car, traveled at our own pace, and stopped where and when we wanted – thus we were able to see so many things of such historical significance in a short period of time: Old City of Jerusalem, Wailing Wall, Dome of the Rock, ruins at Caesarea, Sea of Galilee, Qumran (Dead Sea Scrolls), Dead Sea, and city of Eilat on the Red Sea – to name but a few.
