Two deputies assaulted while answering house call

Two Larimer County deputies were assaulted – one kicked in the head, the other hit in the ribs with a hammer – by a man who was holding a woman hostage, police said Thursday.

About 10:50 p.m. Christmas Eve, deputies went to the 4400 block of Bridle Drive and were met at the door by a 51-year-old woman who told them, “He has a knife and he’s trying to kill me,” according to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman told investigators that she and 28-year-old Keith Maloney were living together but she was trying to get him to move out.

The deputies found Maloney inside a bedroom. He kicked one deputy in the head and hit another deputy in the ribs with a hammer, police said.

The officers subdued Maloney. He was taken to Poudre Valley Hospital and later to the Larimer County jail. The deputies were treated for their injuries and released, police said.

Maloney is being held on $100,000 bail on allegations of attempted second-degree murder, felony menacing, false imprisonment, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and domestic violence, police said.
