Utah plans to export moose to Colorado.
As many as 10 females will be captured about 60 miles north of Salt Lake City on Thursday and transported by trailer to Grand Mesa National Forest, near Grand Junction.
In northern Utah, many young moose are wandering into residential areas after being kicked out of their habitat by older moose.
“These younger moose are looking for a place where they can establish a territory of their own. Many of these moose end up on roads and in backyards, which poses a threat to people,” the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources said Tuesday.
“Giving some cow moose to Colorado will help reduce these problems,” the agency said.
The moose will be treated with antibiotics and fitted with a radio collar or ear-tag transmitter.
