The last of three Colorado State football players dismissed from the team in September during a bank fraud investigation will appear in Larimer County Court today for sentencing.
Brian Abata already has entered a guilty plea for second degree forgery, a Class 1 misdemeanor, and Class 4 felony theft. If sentencing follows his former teammates, he will receive probation and a two-year deferred sentence. He also must agree to testify in any upcoming trials, according to Linda Jensen, spokeswoman for the Larimer County District Attorney’s office.
Micah Crews, also a redshirt freshman at the start of the season, entered a guilty plea Tuesday for misdemeanor theft and Class 5 felony forgery. He must make nearly $2,600 in restitution and will receive a two-year deferred probation. He also has agreed to testify, Jensen said.
Abata, a lineman from Thomas Jefferson, and Crews, a defensive back from Kent Denver, never played for the Rams.
The third CSU player, former starting cornerback Robert Herbert, saw his senior year end after the season opener. In exchange for his guilty plea to Class 4 felony theft last month, he must make $6,700 in restitution and perform 150 hours of community service. He also received a two-year deferred sentence and has requested transferring his probation to California.
Three other men, awaiting disposition, were charged in a grand jury indictment and face multiple charges of theft and forgery. Two – Cleodis Floyd, a junior college transfer who had a brief stay on the team, and Alphonso Williams, a walk-on who never played – had a peripheral connection to the program.
