Wichita – A Wichita suburb has bought the house that once belonged to BTK serial killer Dennis Rader.
Park City plans to tear it down to provide an entryway to a small park just behind it, Mayor Dee Stuart said.
The city bought the house from Rader’s former wife, Paula, for a little less than $60,000, Stuart said. The Park City Council voted in November to authorize the purchase. Closing was last week, Stuart said.
“We were quiet about it,” she said. “We decided we’d just as soon not have this all over the place.”
The house, where Dennis and Paula Rader lived for 25 years, will be demolished before spring, Stuart said.
Rader’s house first sold at auction in July 2005 to Michelle Borin, owner of exotic dance club Michelle’s Beach House in Derby. But that sale collapsed because the title couldn’t be transferred to her after a debate over the proceeds went to court. She’d paid $90,000 for the property, about $33,000 above its appraised value.
