Stevia: STEH-via, English. A South American herb whose leaves are 10 to 30 times sweeter than sugar. Considered by the FDA to be a “food supplement,” rather than a “food additive,” it comes in liquid and powder form, and is sold in health food and specialty stores. It can replace sugar in baking, but you will have to experiment, as it has much less volume than the equivalent sugar.|Kristen Browning-Blas
