An 18-year-old Parker resident, a student at Western State College in Gunnison, has been arrested on suspicion of murder, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday.
The arrest came after a body was found at a dormitory on the college campus, two students said.
Addie Kubisiak, a 2006 graduate of Parker’s Ponderosa High School, was booked into the Douglas County Detention Center for investigation of first-degree murder.
Douglas County officials gave no details of the alleged murder and did not identify any victim.
County sheriff’s detectives said they are investigating the case along with police in Gunnison.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Cocha Heyden said details may be released in the next couple of days, but there are numerous witnesses left to interview and detectives don’t want too much information to leak out before they have a chance to question people.
Detectives conducted a search on the Western State campus over the weekend, although a sheriff’s news release says the homicide investigation originated in Douglas County late last year.
A student who lives on campus said police took a body out of the dorms Saturday. Two students, who asked not to be identified for fear college administrators would be upset that they discussed the case, said they had heard it was a baby’s body.
“The incident under investigation does not involve any safety issues for students, faculty or staff,” said a note to the campus community written by Larry K. Meredith, assistant to the president at Western State.
Meredith confirmed that Kubisiak is a Western State student, but would not comment on whether a body was found in her dorm room because the school is cooperating with the police investigation.
Kubisiak was a percussionist in Ponderosa High’s marching band, according to a parent of one of her bandmates.
