Getting your player ready...

Clint Brewster had a change of heart and went with his heart – and his family.

The senior quarterback at Mullen, who orally committed last summer to play this coming season at Illinois, changed his mind and will sign Wednesday with Minnesota, where his father, Tim, a former Broncos assistant, recently was named head coach.

As late as Friday, Brewster insisted he would stay with the Illini. However, amid lots of speculation and when visiting his father over the weekend as well as getting another look at the Gophers’ campus, Brewster reportedly pledged to Minnesota and called the Illinois staff to indicate he had changed his mind.

“We’re going to win (at Minnesota), and I want to be a part of that,” Brewster told the Minnesota Star-Tribune on Sunday.

Last week, Minnesota also received an oral commitment from Brewster’s Mullen teammate Kyle Theret, a linebacker who may be converted to play in the secondary and also visited Minnesota over the weekend.

They will be two of seven Division I-A commitments for the Mustangs, an unusually high number for a Colorado prep team, on national signing day, joining wide receiver-returner Devin Aguilar (Washington), offensive lineman Shawn Daniels (Colorado), running back Phil Morelli (Colorado State), wide receiver Bret Skene (Air Force) and tight end Steve Watson (Michigan).
