A Fort Collins professor, missing in the snow for nearly a month, died of hypothermia brought on by acute alcohol intoxication, according to the Larimer County Coroner.

Patricia Wilkins-Wells, 59, a sociology professor at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, had been missing since Dec. 31, when she telephoned her husband to say she was walking home from a church.

She never made it home and her husband reported her missing on Jan. 2.

Four boys playing outside the church on Jan. 28 found her partially buried body in the snow, which had been covered up by blowing and drifting snow from several large storms.

Police said her body was fully clothed and that foul play had not been suspected.

She had been teaching at UNC since 1992, the school said.
