The Broncos finally got a veteran backup quarterback, and Patrick Ramsey got a chance for stability.

Addressing one of their final pressing free-agency needs, the Broncos found a backup to Jay Cutler in Ramsey, who agreed to a two-year contract Wednesday night, according to his agent, Jimmy Sexton. Ramsey is expected to make between $4 million and $5 million for the life of the contract.

“Patrick thinks it’s the right place for him,” Sexton said.

Ramsey, 28, was cut by the New York Jets this week. He was a first-round pick of Washington in 2002 and started 24 games for the Redskins. He threw one pass for the Jets last season.

Ramsey has 34 career touchdown passes, 29 interceptions and a 74.9 passer rating.

Houston and Carolina also were interested in Ramsey.

Denver had interest in Jeff Garcia, but he was looking for a chance to start and signed with Tampa Bay.
