Washington Group International, a Boise, Idaho-based engineering and construction firm, said Wednesday it is looking to hire 200 engineers in the Denver area.

“The positions are across the board,” said Washington Group spokesman Jerry Holloway. “Structural and electrical engineers are of interest. … We’re looking for a range of experience.”

The jobs could have an economic impact of $21 million to $25 million in terms of wages, salaries, and spinoff jobs, said Tom Clark, executive vice president of the Metro Denver Economic Development Corp.

He said the median salary for a licensed engineer in the Denver metro area ranges from $75,000 to $85,000 a year. Holloway would not give specifics regarding salary, stating that pay is “competitive.”

Washington Group employs 800 workers in Denver. Its mining business unit is headquartered here.

WGI’s recruitment efforts in Denver are part of a national drive to hire 1,000 employees in 2007. The company will host a job fair at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, near its Denver Technology Center offices, on Wednesday to look for applicants. Other job fairs will follow in Chicago; Frederick, Md.; and Houston.
