A Lakewood man who exchanged gunfire with police Tuesday fired the fatal bullet into his own head, according to autopsy results released Saturday.
The Jefferson County coroner’s office determined that the official cause of death for Andrew Constable, 27, was suicide, said Steve Davis, Lakewood police spokesman.
Constable fired the shot Tuesday morning after police answered a domestic- violence call in the 3200 block of South Indiana Street, Davis said.
“Four or five people saw him shoot himself,” Davis said.
At least one bullet fired by the two Lakewood officers, whose names have not been released, struck Constable after he ignored orders to put down his weapon, Davis said.
The officers are on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation of the shooting, he said.
The coroner’s report says no other bullet wounds on Constable’s body would have proved fatal besides the one he fired himself, Davis said.
According to requests for restraining orders filed by Andrew Constable’s former wife and her boyfriend, he repeatedly threatened to kill them.
In a May 5 request, his former wife, Jennifer Constable, claimed Andrew Constable had pointed a gun at her and choked and kicked her.
