A Lochbuie teenager, suspected of drunken driving, was arrested after he smashed a car into a garage and tree, killing his 15-year-old passenger late Friday night.

Kyle A. Walls, was pronounced dead near the accident at 542 E. Locust Ave. in Lochbuie, said Master Trooper Ron Watkins of the Colorado State Patrol.

Authorities did not release the name of the juvenile driver who faces various charges including speeding and drunken driving, Watkins said.

A blue 1994 Saturn was speeding eastbound on Locust Avenue at about 11:45 p.m. Friday when the young driver lost control of the car on a left hand curve, Watkins said.

The car went off the right side of the road, struck a tree and collided with a residential garage, Watkins said.

The two boys, who hadn’t been wearing their seat belts, jumped out of the car and began running north of the crash, police said.

Walls soon collapsed, according to Watkins. A Weld County coroner pronounced the boy dead at the scene, Watkins said. His family has been notified.

The driver, who received minor injuries, was taken to Denver Health Medical Center for treatment, he said.
