DENVER-

The House approved a measure Wednesday requiring energy companies to use the best available technology to reduce the impact of exploration and drilling on wildlife and their habitat.

The measure (House Bill 1298) now goes to the Senate.

The bill directs the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission to work with the Division of Wildlife to develop regulations.

Rep. Dan Gibbs, D-Silverthorne, said the state must balance the needs of wildlife and the oil and gas industry.

“This legislation is a practical solution to this problem,” he said.
