WESTMINSTER, Colo.-
Two high school students were arrested after allegedly telling other students not to go to class next Monday because they planned to “shoot the place up,” investigators said.
The students, a boy and a girl, were arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of interfering with staff, faculty, or students of educational institutions. Their names and ages were not released.
They attended Ranum High School in this north Denver suburb.
Adams County sheriff’s Sgt. Candi Baker said the alleged threats were made in class Friday, and investigators determined they were credible. It was not immediately clear whether the students had access to weapons.
Ranum is closed this week for spring break. Classes resume Monday.
A judge on Wednesday ordered the pair held without bail at a juvenile detention center until a court appearance on Monday, Baker said.
The interference charge is a misdemeanor and carries a penalty of six to 18 months incarceration and a fine of $500 to $5,000.
