Running back Thomas Perez no longer is a member of the Colorado football team, coach Dan Hawkins confirmed Tuesday.
Perez, a junior college transfer who redshirted last fall, did not participate in spring drills because of academic reasons. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Perez came to CU from Compton (Calif.) Community College, where he averaged 8.2 yards per carry and scored 17 touchdowns as a sophomore.
Perez was expected to compete for the starting tailback job this fall with returning starter Hugh Charles and incoming transfer P.T. Gates from Saddleback Community College in Mission Viejo, Calif.
