CHEYENNE, Wyo.-

The return of 40 inmates from Texas means that all of Wyoming’s female inmates now are being housed in-state.

It’s the first time that has been the case in eight years.

The women were transferred Tuesday to the Wyoming Women’s Center in Lusk from the private Rolling Plains Regional Jail and Detention Center in Haskell, Texas.

The Wyoming Department of Corrections says the transfer was made possible by a recent expansion at the Women’s Center. The expansion nearly doubled the prison’s capacity.

The department still has a goal of bringing all male inmates back to Wyoming after a medium-security prison is completed in Torrington in 2009.

Four hundred, fifty-seven male inmates are being held at prisons in Oklahoma and Texas.
