House Joint Resolution 1020, which passed the House this week, condemns the genocide occurring in the Darfur region of Sudan. The resolution, co-sponsored by Rep. Rosemary Marshall, D-Denver, and Sen. Paula Sandoval, D-Denver, urges President Bush and Congress to work with the international community to halt human-rights violations, to impose appropriate economic sanctions, and to bring humanitarian assistance and lasting peace to the region.

Slips of the tongue
It was tongue-tied Tuesday under the Gold Dome.
Lt. Gov. Barbara O’Brien, for one, still seems to have some uncertainty as to who’s the boss.
“I was thinking back to the fateful day when Gov. Romer asked me if I would run with him and I thought, ‘What are you nuts?”‘ said O’Brien, who meant to refer to Gov. Bill Ritter.
O’Brien made a similar slip-up in March.
For his part, Gov. Ritter weighed in with a botched position.
“I support workplace discrimination,” said Ritter, who meant to say he supports a bill to prohibit workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation.
Can we quote you on that?
“America is not at war. The U.S. military is at war. America is at the mall.”
– Sen. Steve Ward, a Littleton Republican and former Marine who served in Afghanistan, quoting from a circulating e-mail during a debate over the expansion of Fort Carson’s training area
