DENVER-
Responding to the growing theft of metals, the Senate on Tuesday gave final approval to a measure (House Bill 1141) that establishes a registry for people buying or selling commodity metals.
Thefts of copper and aluminum has increased nationally in recent years as metal prices have risen. Thieves have taken everything from light poles to bleachers.
The proposal, which now heads back to the House, requires buyers and sellers to keep records of their transactions. The aim is to create a paper trail to help law enforcement investigate thefts.
