A car driven by a Utah woman crashed into a dump truck in Colorado, killing her and her three children.
Duane Halladay, who didn’t make the trip with his wife and children, was informed by his local Mormon bishop and state troopers.
“That was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. He was devastated,” Bishop Mark Walker said.
Crystal Halladay was driving east on Colorado 92 near Montrose when her Hyundai sedan drifted into oncoming traffic Wednesday and struck the truck, authorities said.
Her sons Colton, 8, and Nicholas, 6, and her daughter Annie, 7, were also killed.
All were wearing seat belts or child restraints. Crystal Halladay, 46, was a teacher at Salem Elementary School in Utah County.
She and the children were in Colorado to visit family. Duane Halladay, an accountant, stayed home because of work.
“The kids had joked about kidnapping dad,” Walker said.
