An Alabama developer broke ground Wednesday on a $120 million shopping center in Fort Collins.

Bayer Properties LLC, in partnership with the city of Fort Collins, will develop 900,000 square feet of retail, public-service and office space on 110 acres at East Harmony and Ziegler roads.

Lowe’s will be among the anchor tenants at Front Range Village, designed by Birmingham, Ala.-based CMH Architects and expected to be completed by summer of 2008. Other tenants include the Fort Collins Regional Library District-Southeast Branch, SuperTarget, Staples, Sports Authority and TGI Friday’s.

Eight of the center’s 17 buildings will be clustered around a main street ending at a roundabout on the development’s west side. Nine buildings will front East Harmony and Ziegler roads, and five buildings will frame the western edge.

CMH is seeking Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification for the village. LEED standards encourage sustainable growth practices, environmental efficiencies and use of local materials.
