PUEBLO, Colo.-

Investigators were looking early Monday for the cause of a fire that heavily damaged a building used by the Colorado Lottery at the State Fairgrounds in Pueblo.

Law enforcement officers responding to a burglar alarm saw smoke rising from the building just after midnight and notified firefighters. Flames were shooting from the roof when they arrived.

Crews extinguished the blaze in about two hours.

William Nemick, assistant chief with the Pueblo Fire Department, said the building was in the process of being reroofed, and propane torches were on top of the structure at the time of the blaze.

“It doesn’t appear to be any foul play involved,” Nemick said. “I believe the fire was probably smoldering for quite some time.”

No one was hurt, but firefighters said the building appeared to be a total loss.
